9/18/24 - Update 4:23 p.m.
Dear Parents and Guardians of Weld Re-8,
You may be aware of the increase in social media threats against schools across the state this week. No specific schools were mentioned in the threatening social media post circulating yesterday, and law enforcement officials do not believe this threat is credible. We continue to work with Fort Lupton Police and Dacono Police to investigate and bolster security in Weld Re-8 Schools. We encourage you to send your students to school and we want to assure our public that we are vigilant in watching what is going on in and around our campus to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community.
These incidents cause stress on our students and families, as well as our staff. They also disrupt the learning environment. We appreciate our administrators and local law enforcement partners who work quickly and thoroughly to investigate these threats when they arise.
There are ways that you can help as well; If you receive a threat through social media, please do not forward it or repost it. Instead, take a screenshot and share it with our school administrators and police. Sharing the post makes it harder to track its origination and slows down the investigation. Please do not seek answers about a threat on social media. If you have a question, please contact us directly. Help stop the spread of rumors.
We also encourage you to have open conversations with your children about the importance of being mindful of their surroundings. Remind them to notify school administration or a trusted adult if they see or hear anything unusual, or they can make a report through Safe2Tell at 1-877-542-7233 or online at Safe2Tell.org. All reports are anonymous. Reports are shared with law enforcement, school administrators and district administration.
Additionally, we understand that some students may feel unsettled by this news. If students need extra support we encourage them to talk to a counselor or a trusted adult.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your continued partnership in keeping our schools safe. Together, we can ensure a safe and supportive environment for all. The safety of our students and staff members remains our highest priority.
Sincerely,
Alan Kaylor
Weld Re-8 Schools Superintendent
